Drinking water wells in Esens
We are drilling three new drinking water wells in Esens, East Frisia, near the North Sea. The new wells will replace the old ones, which we have decommissioned. This ensures the future drinking water supply for East Frisia.

We provide our client with a complete solution, securing the drinking water supply for the local population. From exploratory drilling and well drilling to high-performance sand removal and the installation of well completion structures – Hölscher delivers the full package.
Services and technologies used
Exploratory drilling
For each well, we first conducted continuously cored exploratory drilling to a depth of approximately 80 meters, developing them into groundwater quality monitoring wells. These complex drillings are essential for site assessment and ensure the production well is optimally adapted to the local hydrogeological conditions. The data obtained allows us to define depth-differentiated gravel pack layers, slot widths, and the installation depths of stainless-steel wire-wrapped filters.
State-of-the-art well drilling
The wells were then drilled using a cable percussion drilling rig with a diameter of 1300/1000 mm to a depth of 70 meters. The wells, with a diameter of DN 400, are equipped with stainless steel wire-wrapped filters and a double, depth-differentiated gravel pack. The annular space in the solid casing section is sealed using a bentonite-cement slurry in the contractor method to protect the groundwater resource.
hw high-performance sand removal
The wells are currently being developed using our hw high-performance sand removal technology. With our patented high-performance sand removal process (HLE), we provide efficient cleaning for vertical and horizontal filter wells – both for new construction and well regeneration. We flexibly adapt to the specific needs of each well by combining an effective extraction chamber with the optional use of innovative, environmentally friendly pulse technology. This guarantees optimal performance and sustainability across all projects.
Well-heads, valve systems, and well houses
In the final step, well-heads and valve systems are installed, and well houses are constructed. Soon, we will once again supply clean drinking water to the local population for generations to come.
Drinking water from the North Sea region is typically of very high quality, and our wells ensure that this water remains pure and available.
