Frankfurt FOUR
The large-scale Frankfurt FOUR project involves the construction of four skyscrapers with an underground garage in the heart of the banking district in Frankfurt am Main. These skyscrapers, envisioned as the "new heart of the city," will range in height from 100 to 228 meters. The buildings will also feature a shared four-story underground garage. The development will include over 600 residential units, the country's highest office floors, a hotel, and a daycare centre.
A solid foundation for offices
and living spaces in the sky
Before the skyscraper foundations are laid, groundwater must be lowered temporarily. To achieve this, approximately 20 Quaternary wells with depths of around six meters and 65 Tertiary wells with depths between 20 and 34 meters were drilled in a confined space. The project also included 25 monitoring wells/groundwater measurement points,
1,000 meters of branch, ring, and collection pipelines and 200 meters of elevated discharge pipelines leading to Gallusanlage. The entire process was monitored by a complex monitoring and alarm system. The system comprises automatic flow meters and data loggers providing continuous oversight of the groundwater levels lowered during construction. The site was excavated using the top-down construction method.

Groundwater under control – Environmental responsibility
The extracted groundwater was treated by a complex two-stage purification system consisting of a booster station, filtration system with a clean water tank
and a sludge storage tank as well as multiple activated carbon and ion exchange filtration stages operating in series.
Quaternary and Tertiary well drilling in confined spaces
In tight construction conditions, 20 quaternary wells were drilled to depths of approximately six meters, and 65 tertiary wells were drilled to depths of 20 to 34 meters. This well structure ensured precise control of groundwater throughout the construction process.
Branch, ring, and collection pipelines, monitoring wells, and groundwater measurement points
Additionally, 25 monitoring wells and groundwater measurement points were installed to precisely track groundwater levels. Furthermore, 1,000 meters of branch, ring, and collection pipelines, along with a 200-meter elevated discharge pipeline to Gallusanlage, were installed to ensure efficient water drainage.
Monitoring
Groundwater management for the Frankfurt FOUR project was closely monitored by an advanced monitoring and alarm system. This system included automated flow meters and data loggers that continuously recorded and monitored the lowered groundwater levels during construction.
