Metro Cityringen Copenhagen
The Metro Cityringen in Copenhagen is a 15.5-kilometre dual-tube tunnel system with 17 underground stations and an underground maintenance depot. It expands the Copenhagen Metro, connecting the cities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.
Environmental protection meets large-scale construction
The Cityringen line consists of two tunnels, each with a diameter of 5.78 meters. The tunnels run up to 25 meters below the surface, primarily through Copenhagen limestone. The line connects 17 new metro stations, linking the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The Cityringen, like the rest of the Copenhagen Metro, is operated by driverless trains.

25 kilometres of reinfiltration pipelines
To reinfiltrate groundwater at the Metro Cityringen construction site, 25 kilometres of pipelines were installed. These pipelines ensure that treated groundwater is returned to the soil, stabilising the natural groundwater level and minimising environmental impact.
Water treatment plants at construction sites
21 water treatment plants were installed at all 21 construction sites to clean extracted groundwater. These plants ensure that the water meets environmental standards before being discharged into the sewer system or natural water bodies, contributing significantly to environmental protection during construction.
Numerous wells up to 45 meters deep
1,100 wells were drilled at the Metro Cityringen site, with depths reaching up to 45 meters. These wells facilitate dewatering and ensure full control over groundwater levels.
Fully automated monitoring and remote control
The water treatment plants at the Metro Cityringen site are fully automated and controlled by a SCADA monitoring system. This system enables real-time remote monitoring and control of all processes, with data transmitted via GPRS. This ensures efficient and secure operation, allowing for rapid response to potential disturbances.
