Smart solutions for the most important element
As a specialist in dewatering and groundwater management, we continuously develop innovative, practical and sustainable technologies that meet the growing demands of our time. Our aim is to improve processes, conserve resources and find new ways to use water more intelligently.
Whether in civil engineering, pipeline construction, tunnelling or rural areas, our solutions are developed wherever conventional methods reach their limits. These include Hölscher weir systems, which retain rainwater across the landscape, and hw-dsi, a patented method for the effective reinfiltration of groundwater in construction projects.
All of our innovations have one thing in common: they combine technical efficiency with responsibility for the environment and groundwater, demonstrating what modern water management looks like today. Through our in-house technical centre and test site, we develop practical solutions from the Emsland region for use throughout Europe.
Below, we present our latest developments and products in greater detail.
Hölscher weir systems
The Hölscher weir system
Our in-house weir system was developed to retain rainwater in ditches and keep it within the surrounding landscape instead of allowing it to drain away quickly. The system is designed to counter increasingly frequent periods of drought while also helping to regulate water during heavy rainfall events. The result: a stable, regulated water level that supports groundwater recharge while delivering both agricultural and ecological benefits.
Installation & operation
- First, the ditches are surveyed using GPS technology.
- The weir panels are then custom-made in our workshop to match the geometry of each ditch.
- Transport is handled efficiently by our own logistics team. On site, the panels are installed using specialised mobile equipment, vibrated into the ground and levelled. Installation is carried out quickly by a two-person team.
- The weir is adjusted to the required water level depending on the season, demand and vegetation.
Nature conservation & biodiversity
Water retention across the landscape can only be successful if ecological considerations are consistently taken into account. Through adapted construction methods, we ensure that:
- valuable habitats are not adversely affected (macroinvertebrates can pass through the weirs and drying out is prevented)
- groundwater recharge occurs naturally
- natural structures within the ditches are preserved
- capillary action supports higher agricultural yields
Two variants – tailored to different requirements
We have developed two different adjustable weir systems: a slide weir and a tilting weir. Both can be adjusted manually using a telescopic pole. In future, automatically controlled weirs could also be implemented, operating independently using solar or wind energy. Both variants require little maintenance and are easy to install.
