New residential development in BuxtehudeWhen construction occurs below the groundwater level, it's often necessary to temporarily lower the water table by extracting groundwater. If this extracted water is discharged into surface waters or sewers, it's permanently removed from the natural groundwater cycle. Using our advanced technology, we return the extracted water back to where it belongs.
In times of climate change, groundwater resources are becoming increasingly scarce. To minimise the impact on groundwater bodies, we return as much water as possible to the source during every construction project – naturally purified. This helps preserve groundwater levels. Alongside conventional methods, we have been using our patented, continuously refined hw-dsi® process for over 10 years – a space-saving and gentle reinfiltration method, ideal for densely populated urban areas.
We provide standard reinfiltration methods such as gravity infiltration wells, infiltration trenches, or drainage systems. However, in densely populated areas, these technologies are often infeasible or cost-prohibitive due to space requirements. With the patented hw-dsi® process, we have perfected a particularly space-efficient and gentle reinfiltration method, minimising the impact on groundwater aquifer.
The goal of exploratory drilling is to identify the horizon where the hw-dsi® level is located – a zone of increased hydraulic conductivity within the aquifer. Drilling is carried out as a rotary drilling process, typically with small diameters of 150 to 250 mm, depending on site conditions. A specially adapted small drilling rig is used for this purpose.
The patented hw-dsi® process minimises the impact on groundwater bodies. The nozzle suction infiltration system (DSI) enables faster, more efficient infiltration of seepage water into the ground using specialised drilling and measurement techniques. This process begins with exploratory drilling. Unlike conventional infiltration methods, the hw-dsi® process only requires well casing of DN50 to DN100.
Reinfiltrating extracted water helps prevent negative effects such as the drying of wetlands or subsidence of structures. The hw-dsi® process also results in a broader, shallower groundwater rise near the well. The following application areas are particularly well-suited for the hw-dsi® process:
Changes in groundwater flow can lead to unexpected groundwater damage. The hw-dsi® process offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive containment structures. Creating a hydraulic barrier prevents the spread of contamination. The water required for infiltration can often be sourced entirely from construction dewatering, saving additional costs. The effectiveness of the barrier is monitored throughout the construction phase.
Water neutrality means managing water use in a way that avoids negative impacts on natural water resources. We achieve this by reducing water consumption, improving efficiency, and offsetting unavoidable usage through measures such as rainwater harvesting or wastewater treatment. Our goal is to balance water extraction and reinfiltration, ensuring that the quantity and quality of natural water systems remain unaffected.
For the construction industry, municipalities, and industrial companies, we are the national and international partner of choice for demanding groundwater projects. Our company combines in-depth expertise, decades of experience, and technical excellence in groundwater management to provide safe, sustainable, and intelligently connected solutions in the areas of groundwater management, water treatment, well drilling, geothermal energy, reinfiltration and monitoring.
